Beat 2012: Mark Ronson x Olympics

I haven't been this excited about a commercial campaign in quite a while, but this one's really piqued my interest. And of course, it's got to do with my bb Mark Ronson. (Back off, Yvette)

Mark Ronson teams up with some Olympic hopefuls to record their sounds and make a song for the London 2012 Olympics, sponsored by Coca Cola. One of the goals of the Move to the Beat™ campaign is to help young people connect to the 2012 London Olympics. A commercial has been released as well as a trailer for a feature length documentary on how Mark Ronson went about creating the song.

Here's the documentary trailer for behind the scenes peek at how the better Ronson goes about recording sounds of them running, jumping, shooting, fighting, etc. The second video is more indepth and tells you which beat was derived from which move by which athlete.

Most importantly, look out for Singaporean Olympic Archer, Dayaan Jaffar in the video. SG REPREZENT.

..and the commercial. How fun would a gig like that be?

It's such a good story really and I can't wait for the full track to be out, just cos it's going to be so interesting for sure. Also, I am biased and love Mark Ronson. Just look at the man and how fit he is. (And unfit, really: "I'm on a bicycle, and that was like.. tough" LOL)

DIY Dovahkiin

Holy Talos! Some kid on reddit made this and it's pure genius. Kudos to him from one Dovahkiin to another, and when the time comes, may he feast in Sovngarde!

You can get the full sized version here.
And if you're crafting this, you should totally donate to the dude. Help a brother out. Brovahkiin.

JKT & Friends

As celebrities (in our own right mind), people always want a peek into our personal lives.

Here's the most recent time all four of us were together (which is extremely rare, because Ro hardly comes out, just like how she hardly posts here. She's on the brink of getting fired, really) before I left Singapore to head back to Australia.

Photos by Kathlyn and Sheena from a (really good) night out recently at No. 5 Emerald Hill and Homeclub — JKT and friends came out to celebrate Kirsty's departure from the company that brought us all together.

Our little humble Jiakkantang.com has been going on for more than a year now, which surprises all of us really! And it's real nice knowing JKT & Friends are still ... friends, despite us being strewn all over now. Grrl power!

Singapore Takeout: the travelling pop-up kitchen, have you seen it?

It's been a fruitful 7 months working on the Singapore Takeout project and I'm proud to share some info about this exciting project especially since it is almost coming to an end!

The pop-up kitchen (which is essentially a shipping container) has travelled to top gastronomic cities such as Hong Kong, New York, London and is making is last stop in Sydney to promote Singapore as a must-visit food destination and our modern Singapore-inspired cuisine.

Singapore Takeout also aims to increase awareness of our city's talented chefs. A line-up of our city's top culinary names (Janice Wong, Andre Chiang, Ryan Clift, Ignatius Chan, etc.) will work with an in-market chef from each city to create delicious and innovative dishes representing the multi-cultural flavours and ingredients Singapore is well-known for. There's both public and private sessions which allows people to sample the food right out of the container.

I remember when Singapore was just famous for its hawker fare / variety of food because of our multi-cultural heritage, but now the world's finest restaurants are setting up outlets here along with a buncha other cool and exciting food places such as quaint coffee cafes and cocktail bars. Ask any Singaporean, and no one actually gets sick talking about food...

Speaking of which, these are a few coffee / brunch cafes to check out if you're always on the lookout for all-day breakfast places like me!

1. Club Street Social, Genmill Lane

I haven't been there but I'm really wanting to check out this place and it's pretty new!

2. Spruce, Restaurant Bar & Bakery at 32o Tanglin Road

3. Toby's Estate at Rodyk Street (near Robertson Quay)
Apparently, this place serves really good Aussie coffee since it's a Sydney-coffee chain outlet. I've tried it as well and it's pretty damn good.

Till the next food post!

Painted 3D Goldfish

Riusuke Fukahori creates these master pieces, painting layer by layer, building what will looks like real goldfish. He's kind of like a human 3D printer.

What a BAMF.

How To Look Like Ryan Gosling

Now, everyone loves Ryan Gosling. Anyone who says they don't is a liar. Any lady who says their ovaries don't tingle at the mere sight of the man is a liar. EVERYBODY LOVES BABY GOOSE.

Unfortunately, a lot of us will have to come to terms with this sad fact - we will never be with Ryan Gosling. That realisation really hits you in the gut like a baseball bat, but we've all got to move on and find other ways to find happiness.

One way is to get with a Ryan Gosling Doppelganger. Impossible, you say? Well, this bro has it all figured out.

My ovaries aren't exploding though.

Pants Sajak and Vanna White

This is a video in which Pat Sajak signs off by taking his pants off. Obvious decision, really.

GOOGLE X VALENTINE'S

Happy Hallmark Holiday, everyone! To mark this non-special  Tuesday, here's another Google Doodle to go into our book of favourites.

And remember, flowers are cheapest when bought at the markets.

RIP Whitney

You were a really important icon to most of us here at JKT and your sudden demiss comes as a shock to all. You'll always be remembered for your better days and inspiring talent, and we will miss you.

Gone too young — rest in peace, Ms Houston.

GOOGLE x CHARLES DICKENS

So today's first revelation of the day is that it's Charles Dicken's 200th birthday. And I totes already knew that. I mean, Charles is everyone's homeboy pretty much.

Since I'm on the topic of Google, I was watching Million Dollar Money Drop (US) the other night and one of the questions was: 'In the corporate logo for Google, what color has the capital G been since 1998? - yellow, blue or red. Obviously they didn't hear me shouting 'blue!!!" at the TV set, since they decided to put half a million on red, and only $200,000 on blue. GOSH.

Super Bowl XLVI Thingamagics

Here at JKT, we think we're pretty trendy. So here's us jumping on the bandwagon with an obligatory Super Bowl post. One of the 12317981 currently on the Internet.

Another OK Go Music Video Of The Day

For their latest music video-slash-Chevy Super Bowl ad, OK Go drove down a two-mile stretch of desert lined with 1,000 instruments in a Chevy Sonic fitted with retractable pneumatic arms to perform a very complicated version of “Needing/Getting” that took four months to prep and four days to shoot.

Car Ad With Clint Eastwood Of The Day

Chrysler shows a middle finger to everyone with their half-time spot aptly (and rather inspirational, too) titled 'Halftime In America', staring national treasure Clint Eastwood.

Dog Wearing Shoes Ad Of The Day

Sketchers made the best decision of their lives, to ditch Kim Kardashian as their Super Bowl spokeperson in favour of a better pooch - a French bulldog name Mr. Quiggly.

Half-Time Show Of The Day

And of course, everyone's talking about Madge's killer half-time show featuring a medley of Madonna songs featuring the likes of LMFAO, M.I.A. Nicki Minaj and Cee Lo Green.

And er, go Giants! Right?

OK Go x Sesame Street

Are you one of the poor souls who can't rattle of the three primary colours when held at gun-point? You are? Then you really should get your priorities straightened out.

But don't worry, Sesame Street has you covered. In this video, uber cool and hip OK Go teach Sesame Street's young viewers about primary colours in signature OK Go fashion. Rad. Or red. Lol.

Shit Perth People Say

Yeah, no. Don't live there anymore, but I can verify that this is all true. Not that you care, because you've never lived in Perth.... or Australia even. But 50% of JKT is linked to that country-continent and therefore this is relevant.

xoxo

How to draw a horse.

Cecilia Camouflaged

A little body paint sure goes a long way, as Peruvian artist Ceclia Paredes will tell you - as she seamlessly blends herself into her own intricate, botanical paintings.

Instead of covering every single square inch of her body with paint and just standing against the background, Cecilia carefully chooses her poses and leaves her hair natural. Beautiful, really.

While I was honestly in awe when I stumbled across this, the biggest question on my mind was how fucking long did it take?

You can view more of these here.

Cactus Chairs

If you're looking to buy crazy ass furniture that are probably really uncomfortable to sit on, and act more as a piece of art - you're in the right place!

A creative joke, if you will, Mexican deesigner Valentina Gonzalez Wohlers has transformed the classic French Louis XXV oval chair into the shape of a Nopal cactus. I mean, who's never wanted a chair to look like a cactus?

Available at Bergdorf Goodman. Specifically on the Seventh Floor.
