It's the end of a long 5-day weekend for me — and the one thing that can set things right for the coming short but hectic work week for me is good solid breakfast.

Which is why I need this.

With a toaster over 6l mini toaster oven, 4 cup coffee maker and removable non-stick hot plate - you've just reduced brought your pantry to your work desk.

Happy Chinese New Year from JKT

It's the start of another lunar new year, and here in Singapore— that's kind of a big deal. It's like the Asian Thanksgiving. Families get together, you discover relatives you new you had, and you gain some festive weight. Or develop a festive flu from all that snacking.

So if anyone ever questions the significance of this holiday period, it's pretty much about eating with people you love.

This Malaysian commercial captures the spirit while tugging at the heart strings.

Happy Chinese New Year everyone, remember what a blessing it is to be able to sek fan with your loved ones.

新年快乐 ,

The Girls at JKT x

Chinese New Year - the time of the year when you avoid wearing anything black, meet cousins of cousins / long-lost relatives whom you have no recollections of, and spend long hours sitting around gorging on festive snacks (also because there's nothing much else to do).

But more than that, CNY is all about family reunions, the once-a-year treat of enjoying delicious traditional food, stuffing your pockets with red packets (if you aint married that is.) andd of course, you can't avoid spring cleaning when the whole family comes together to clean the house so that its cleanliness & neatness will last another year.

The popular icon of Chinese New Year - Ang Pao (or red packets as they are known as) has been given a modern design twist by &plentymore (a creative collaboration started by my dear friend Joyce and her bunch of creative friends who are all young aspiring Singaporean designers).

Instead of the usual red packets which are designed with corporate branding and are given out freely by companies, red packets from &plentymore are designed with pictures of food eaten during CNY (such as bakkwa, kueh lapis, pineapple tarts and oranges). I think this is such a fun way to share with others around the world about Chinese New Year - check out their site to find out more.

So to all our Chinese friends and to those who are enjoying their long break:

P.S: To all non-speaking Chinese readers: Huat is a Hokkien word (a chinese dialect popularly used in singapore) meaning strike rich or prosper

My First Hardcore Song

I can't imagine not being introduced to heavy music, and if more people give it a chance, they'll realise how good it is. Just like 8 year old Juliet, who just released her first hardcore song.

About her dog, Robert.

Double pedals x floor punching x OHHHHHH x "Let's open up this pit!" = This girl has it cut out for her.

Photorealism by Pakayla

I'm not some fancy art know-it-all. All I know about it is that's it nice to look at. And one of my absolute favourite things to look at is mixed media, or art playing on different types of art. When it's done right, it can be mind-blowing-ly beautiful.

Pakayla Biehn has done it right. More than right.

The amazing Pakayla creates paintings based on double exposed photographs.

Based in San Fran, she collaborates with photographers to produce these double exposure goodies as inspiration paints then on canvas with oil. The results? The perfect definition of ethereal.

You can view more of her creations here — seriously, how can one not be awestruck?

The Kooples Couples

You know how some couples are just so achingly stylish? Like they only reason they're together is so parade how well their outfits complement each other.

So looks like The Kooples found these couples and got them to star in their ad campaign.

Outfitted in Kooples, of course, and looking just so damn cool, these real-life couples really mirror what the brand is about — how everything is just that much better with a little bit of British edge. Or "franco-british elegance made for urban living" as their website puts it.

A treat below the cut — sweet videos of one of the the Kooples Couples, Corinna & Johnny. You can watch the rest of their couples' videos on their YouTube page here.

Art Heist LA

JONDO is out on a mission to democratize art and it looks like they're doing a pretty fine job at it.

These geniuses have distributed 26 museum quality canvas prints throughout 5 hidden location sin Los Angeles. And if you find it? You can have it. No strings attached. They're yours for the taking.

Watch the video of how it all went down.

The idea behind the whole campaigns is amazing and something I wholly agree with — art can and should be affordable and accessible to people. Perhaps this could turn into a travelling project from city to city.

Intimacy Under The Wires

One of the things I'm not too keen about in my house in Brisbane, is the lack of a clothes dryer and a proper place to hang it. We have to do it on the balcony. It's honestly such a chore, and for some odd reason, it sometimes attracts dust. Or something. I don't know. I JUST DON'T LIKE IT.

But the people of Europe have somehow, as they do with everything, managed to make doing laundry the most beautiful and romantic thing ever.

In a project aptly named 'Intimacy under the wires', Israeli photographer Sivan Askayo has been capturing the upskirt views of hung laundry from Madrid, Barcelona, London, Florence, Venice, and Buenos Aires.

Pretty sure my laundry doesn't look as good.

Ink & Paper

Ink & Paper is a lovely, albeit bittersweet, short film by Ben Proudfoot featuring Aardvark Letterpress and McManus & Morgan Paper, the only letterpress and paper shops left in downtown Los Angeles.

The film really highlights the importance of supporting local artisans.

JKT Top 5: Songs About Asses

At JKT, keepin' it classy is always on our list of priorities, though sometimes we feature things basic bitches would probably not go near – such as songs that celebrate the derriere.

So what's so great about asses? Besides looking fionnneeee in jeans, our butts are such a big part of our lives; they make good natural cushions and are even used to express affection ie, love hearts are shaped to resemble backsides (I <3 you = I butt you). So in honor of le glutues maximus, I've compile a list of my favorite songs about big beautiful booties.

17 Countries. 343 Days. 6237 Photographs.

While the time lapse concept is no doubt beautiful (The very first time lapse video I watched was this, and I'm enamoured by it still), I am honestly getting pretty bored of it. It seems like every other amazing video that goes viral these days is a time lapse compilation.

But I surprised myself tonight by clicking on yet another travelogue. It turned out to be incredible.

Kien Lam says: “After I quit my job last year, I packed a bag, grabbed my camera and bought a one way ticket to London. 17 countries later, I compiled this time lapse of the many amazing places I came across.”

I hope to one day have the chance and the courage to embark on a journey like that.

Shopping for Colour

One of my New Year plans is to move away from too many Blue & Black clothes. I swear everytime my hand reaches out for something in blue while shopping, friends will go - Please you already have something like that!

A girl can never have too many clothes. I'm pretty sure girls look at their waredrobes
and exclaim (prolly 70& of the time) that they have nothing to wear.

Spring 2012's colours look's wishing all the girls a good time shopping during 2012!

2012 Movie Time

Happy 2012 y'all! The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo is gonna be the first movie of 2012 I'm gonna watch -

From the girl playing Mark Zuckerberg's ex-girlfriend in The Social Network to the kick-ass investigator who never smiles in The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, Rooney Mara (how cool is the name) is good girl gone bad (look at the transformation)

Of course - Daniel Craig. He's one of those actors who effortlessly looks like he's ready to take on the world.. also helps that he has a "Best Celebrity Body"

Another movie i'm pretty excited just because of Robert Downey - The Avengers!

Pretty stellar cast starring Robert Downey (Iron Man)
Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow - really?)
Chris Evans (Captain America)
and Chris Hemsworth (Thor)

Check out Movie Insider for the full list of upcoming movies in 2012 (I spot lots of superheroes and sequels...)
