DIY: Glitter Snow Globe

This glitter snow globe craft project by ModCloth is simply precious, and should definitely be on your DIY-must-try list for 2012.
Snow globes are also great ways to capture memories — fill a globe with a souvenir from a recent trip to create a travel-themed globe, or locate an inside joke-ridden childhood trinket to make a globe for a friend. The possibilities are endless!

The Brandt Brauer Frick Ensemble

This music video for The Brandt Brauer Frick Ensemble's single Pretend is simply amazeballs. It is pretty much a really dramatic short film of what I would call a social club (?), with really gorgeous imagery and cinematography. Everything visual is intense and exaggerated, and lends itself perfectly to the build up of the song.

Shit Asian Girls Say

I'm an Asian girl and I approve this message.
#shitasiangirlssay & #asianboys should seriously be a thing.

Queen Kimora

Queen Kimora Lee Simmons has graced the January cover of Harper's Bazaar Singapore and she looks fantabulous. Normally we would be giving Kimora flack for your know, her super shopped body, but this time it's really just 20-30% shopped, aka the average amount. She has really gotten into shape, with her neck rolls at a minimum, and I couldn't be happier for her! Fabulousity indeed.

Click read more for more pictures from the editorial, as well as Kimora in a bikini as proof that she's got a smokin' hot bod now.

Baby It's Cold Outside

Scrubs' super duo Zach Braff and Donald Faison sing their version of Frank Loesser's winter holiday song "Baby It's Cold Outside", aka what I consider the most beautiful duet ever – after "Guy Love" of course.

How to wrap a cat for Christmas

Because the internetz chooses to worship cats, like ancient egyptians use to.
PS. I expect a kitty on my doorstep tomorrow morning.

Cheese Burger Wrapping Paper

It may be Christmas eve, but it still isn't too late to get gifts together for your loved ones – unless you live in New Zealand and the shops are closed because its almost midnight. Or even if you've already picked out the prefect present, you should definitely think about rewrapping them with Gift Couture's Cheese Burger Wrapping Paper, you know, to add a touch of class and deliciousness under the tree.

These 5 different wrapping paper designs will surely steal attention from the Christmas spread and make that crappy cranberry Body Shop gift set you got your cousin, less crappy.

Google x Happy Holidays

Google has an early Christmas present to the world — in the form of an amazing 'Happy Holidays' Google Doodle!

It's definitely one of the best ones yet, complete with interactive flashing lights and the tune “Jingle Bells”. And just general festive cheer.

Merry Christmas and happy holidays from all of us at JKT. And *NSYNC.

1.       Love Actually

 2.       Home Alone

3.       The Muppets Christmas Carol

Yes I plan to watch all of the above on Christmas Day... In that exact order!!

What will you be watching this weekend? ;)

Kim Jong-Il dropping the bass

When news first broke out (North Korea managed to keep it under wraps for 48 hours wow) about the death of Kim Jong-Il, it's both sad and funny that the first thing that came to my head was "What is going to happen to the amazing kimjongillookingatthings?!"

RIP amazing blog.

It looks like my prayers were answered, because my life is now much better with the birth of this:

Here are some crowd-pleasers:

Kim x Huaratron

Kim x Tiesto

Kim x Daft Punk

Kim x Jaymo x Andy George

You can check out the tumblr for more gems. Take it as my Christmas present to all of you.

Dubstep Christmas House

The Cadger Dubstep Christmas House consists of 35,000 LED lights flashing to a track called First Of The Year (Equinox) by Skrillex, whose sound is described as ‘a mix of dubstep, electro and glitch all thrown together’.

This is what dubsteps sounds like to me: WUB WUB WUB WOWOWOWOW WUB WUB WUB WOWOWOWOW, aka strange and not christmassy at all.

But who am I to judge? I consider Amoth Amarth's Viking Christmas extremely festive.

I do think that the light display is pretty badass and goes perfectly with the track. If you're not digging the dubstep, turn off the sound and put on WHAM!'s Last Christmas.

JKT's Christmas 2011 Playlist

Okay, this list is a lie. It should be 99% Mariah Carey. But in the interest of your sanity, here is one Mariah Christmas song and a bunch of other holiday tunes that we're digging this year:

Mariah Carey - All I Want For Christmas

DIY: Star Wars Snowflakes

Tis the season to mount light sabers over the fire place. And  nothing says Christmas like having get togethers with your friends and family, chowing down on festive Star Wars treats like Hans Solo Carbonite Chocolate Bars.

Add to the holiday cheer by decorating your home/shop/tree/Chewbacca with these lovely do-it-yourself Stars Wars snowflakes. All you need is an scissors or an exacto knife and paper. EASY!

You can download the templates for the snowflakes at Anthony Herra Designs.

Self-Hate Cleaning Products

If you're looking for the perfect holiday gift for a self-loathing housewife, look no further. "Post-post-post pop" artist Neil Wax has created these cleaning products with self-hate messages for those of us who tend to bottle up our feelings while having to scrub the toilet. Because emotions via window spray is the new black.

Beginning Boutique

These lovely Beginning Boutique lookbook pictures make me miss Australia like crazy.
Wish we were all back at Chezza's apartment baking cupcakes, eating cheese and crackers and having Murray Street adventures.

Bacon Candy Canes

Because nothing says Christmas like Archie McPhee's bacon flavored candy canes.

Occupy My Pants

This menswear photoshoot by Ben Ritter contrasts the extremes of the 99% and the 1% at the Occupy Wall Street protest. In my opinion, what it really does is highlight how Zz Top was 100% correct when he wrote Sharp Dressed Man. Because honestly what girl wouldn't go crazy for these dapper adonises.

Damon Claus for a Cause

"Who is Matt Damon?" co-founder Matt Damon is educating younglings through his guerrilla effort to promote the perfect holiday gift: the gift of clean water.

This PSA is fantastic, and initiatives championed by clean water organizations are especially close to my heart.

Support the cause, give the gift of clean water this year to people who don't have access to it by purchasing a waterbottle or by making a direct donation to

Lady Gaga's Workshop

It's going to be a Gaga Christmas at Barneys in NYC.

Godga has teamed up with stylist Nicola Formichetti, and has created a colourful and bizzare workshop at Barney’s flagship store, which features a limited edition range of items that she has single handedly designed for all her fans and I WANT EVERYTHING (especially the stiletto stockings).

These include things like leather jackets, fake nails, cartoon sculptures, luminous cookies, her favorite books and even an Alexander McQueen shoe made entire of chocolate! Every Little Monster's idea of a  fashionable winter wonderland indeed.

The off-the-wall-over-the-top-under-a-bridge-mad-hatter-whacky workshop even features an 8' tall Lady Gaga spider sculpture as part of the holiday display.
“There’s all sorts of affordable presents here, and they are guilt-free. It’s the dream of what music and culture are all about, and those are things that can get lost when you focus too much on commercialism. This is, for me, a much more whimsical approach, a Pop Art approach. It’s a ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’ moment. I wanted it all to be whimsical and fun, with a sense of art and fashion.”
Barneys is also donating 25% of the sales from the 220 gifts available to Lady Gaga's Born This Way Foundation.

Free Rides

I went polytechnic with Isaac and Ruby, two crazies who have been going around Singapore getting random strangers from A to B without accepting any cash. Because you know. They're really good people.

The hike in taxi fares have inspired them to turn the frowns of their fellow Singaporeans upside down by giving them free rides to wherever they need to get to.

Show them love and give them support. Spread the #FreeRides word around.

Scottish Star Wars

After watching this, I honest to god wished that Star Wars was actually set in Glasgow. George Lucas should think about that the next time he makes edits for his Star Wars Platinum Blu-ray collector's edition or whatever.

Scottish Star Wars takes the mickey out of.... well, Star Wars and what seems like a day/night at a pub in Scotland. Even without a full grasp of Scotland's scottishness and their accents, what you pick up from the series will still be effing hilarious.

Do not watch this if you are dead inside or if you have zero sense of humor.

Live at Sagmeister

Renowed graphic designer Stefan Sagmeister is a creative genius, and really, only him and his team could have come up with an idea as cool and innovative as this one. The new Sagmeister Inc. website features a live webcam streaming footage of the New York studio from above, with the site menu literally printed on vinyl and stuck to the floor. In my opinion it's also acts like a CCTV, with people of the internet as the security guards, keeping watch at all hours of the day.

I actually have the webpage saved on my bookmarks bar, and have been revisiting the website almost daily. It's super addictive. I've seen the studio at night and in the daytime when people are in the studio working. It's fascinating to watch, but afterwards I usually feel a little dirty. It really is a kind of office voyeurism.

I've never seen design like this before. It's so brilliant from a branding perspective as well; it draws people in and gets them acquainted with the Sagmeister brand even more intimately than ever before.

Charlie the Coyote

The Daily Coyote is an animal blog like no other. It chronicles the life of Charlie the coyote through intimate photos taken by his carer. He is a wild-born coyote was cared for and raised by people after both his parents were shot for killing sheep.

When clicking through the pages of the blog, it's super easy to forget that Charlie is a wild animal and not a domesticated pet, especially when you're viewing so many fantastic pictures of him interacting with his carer's dog. Plus there are tonnes other pictures of cows and kittens and stuff.

This is no LOLCats; the photography on this blog is pretty spectacular, and the outdoor scenery captured is breathtaking, with the sepia tones giving it a touch of the wild west. Both animal and photo enthusiasts will enjoy Charlie's adventures immensely.

Brain Food / Head Crumbs / Etc etc

After a year of running Jiakkantang, we seem to have discovered and carved our niche  telling the Internet about things that look like food, or food that's been made to look like other things. When we said we enjoy food and thinking about it, we weren't kidding.

So yeah. Err. Presenting human brain food sculptures!

Titled “What have you got in your head?”, Sara Asnaghi sculpts human brains from various foods, including chili, hemp seeds, sprinkles, bird food, and bread crumbs. To be honest, when I first saw it I thought it was just rad knit word. Pure yarn. When I found out it was actual food though, I was seriously mind blown. Pun is totes lame and not intended.

After the jump, some upclose looks at the brains to convince you that yes that really is barley and sugar and hay.

How to Wear a Man's Shirt

This video shows legit ways to wear a shirt as dress, and not like in a belted extra long shirt fashion.

It highlights how you can breathe new life into shirts that belong to your ex, shirts you've stolen from one night stands, or shirts that don't fit your husband anymore because he's getting a little chubs and needs to go a size up.

Hip-hop artists always seem to have so much fun on stage acting like gangstas. No one really seem to understand what they are saying but they sing it with full-on confidence, all the words seem to go together and make sense. (am referring to the legit hip hop artists, examples below)

I know a lot of people say he sounds like a noisy kid with bad attitude. but hey this kid has power-rap talent, and so much DRIVE to perform on stage.

Hope you enjoyed that, peace yo. - Shenima
