Vampire Caramel Apples

Keeping in the spirit of Halloween, here's another scrumtrulescent treat which you can recreate.

Vampire Caramel Apples from Sweet Tooth

6 washed and dried apples (preferably red so you can make some red "lips" show through)
6 popsicle or lollipop sticks
4 tbsp butter
1/2 cup light corn syrup
7 oz sweetened condensed milk (1/2 of can)
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1/2 cup packed brown sugar
1 tsp vanilla extract
Handful mini marshmallows

  • Prepare a Silpat-lined or greased wax paper-lined cookie sheet and insert sticks into each cleaned apple.
  • Melt butter in a saucepan until it browns. Stir constantly to avoid bits of brown butter forming.
  • Add corn syrup, condensed milk, and sugars and mix over medium heat. While stirring constantly with a heat-resistant spatula, bring the mixture to a boil and allow it to boil until a candy thermometer reaches 235-340 degrees (aka the soft ball stage).
  • Once the caramel is at the soft ball stage, remove from heat, stir in vanilla, and allow caramel to sit for 5 minutes.
  • Submerge apples in caramel and swirl upon removal to let excess caramel drip off. Invert onto prepared cookie sheet and use a knife to remove any excess caramel that pools on the bottoms.
  • Let the apples set for about an hour and set any extra caramel aside.
  • With a sharp knife, cut out a wedge of apple to make the "mouth". Use the edge of the knife to push back the caramel a little along the edge to make "lips".
  • Use scissors to cut mini marshmallows in half for the central teeth and into triangles for the fangs.
  • Use leftover caramel to help secure the marshmallow teeth to the mouth.

Halloween Yum Yums with Jenny Cookies

As a grown up, aka a 23 year old who grew to a height of 5'4", traditional cheap-o halloween lollies don't quite appeal to me anymore. Nothing gets me down as quite much as crappy candy. I won't turn down a Reese's peanut buttercup, but I'm not going to snack on generic brand chocolate coins. What I'm trying to say is: I AM FANCY.

Anyway, my fancy pants stumbled upon Jenny Cookies' gorgeous cookies and I want them in my belly. NYOM NYOM NYOM.... I would go trick or treating at this lady's house if I have to.

Jenny Keller is the mastermind behind these yummy halloween themed sugar cookies. She specializes in desserts, and all her treats are fun, whimsical and hella creative. She decorates the bestest party dessert tables too!! I've obviously been trolling through her blog, and I find her table decorations so incredibly inspiring.

Visit her website to check out more of her scrumptious creations: JennyCookies.com

Working Nikon D3 Costume

Hey Halloweiners! If you're still looking for costume ideas, you might want to check this one out.

This dude, Tyler Card, created fully functional custom-made camera costume inspired by his Nikon D3. Picture taking goes in the front, photos get displayed on the back.

It comes complete with an LCD display, built in flash, shutter release button/wireless remote control.

To recreate this look, all you need is some cardboard, black tape, black & white paint, clear plastic, an actual Nikon DSLR, and a laptop for the LCD screen. Oh you also need some mad man shoulders to hold all this shit up because it will get heavy.

What I love about this is how it can turn anyone who is a douchy hipster with a fucking camera that blinds everyone with his camera flash into that dude taking legit pics at a party who everyone loves because its part of his whacky costume. Plus you can pretty much guarantee that no one else will come as a working camera. A shit load of people will dress up as Facebook and Youtube pages though. BRACE YOURSELF FOR THAT.

I swear, the only costume that could top this one would probably be someone dressed as a fully functional Lytro.
SOMEONE. MAKE IT HAPPEN. Halloween 2012!

Dear Raspberri Cupcakes, marry me.

Isn't it amazing the kinds of things you talk about with your housemates while sitting around the living room, instead of getting any actual uni work done? Anyway, this has led to my discovery of an absolutely amazing Sydney Bake Blog. (Also I found out she is AZN so that makes everything that much better.)

Introducing you to the wonder that is Raspberri Cupcakes:

Sticky Rice & Kaya Macaroon / Mint Chocolate Chip Cake
Balsamic Strawberry Butter Cake / Orange Cake With Fruit Tingles Icing

Wasabi Cheese Crackers / Pretzel and M&M Chocolate Cheesecake

Kitty Cat Carrot Macarons / Oreo Marshmallows
The Ultimate Milo Cake / Popcorn Macaron with Salted Caramel

If it's not already obvious, I could go on forever.  I plan on making this bedtime reading material for tonight. And by reading, I mean drooling.

White Wedding

Kim Kardashian is ruining my life with her wedding feature that has been rerunning non-stop on E! It's super annoying how she gets the beautiful Vera Wang dress, the most amazing caterer aka the one and only Wolfgang Puck, and Robin Thicke (the perfect choice for wedding entertainment in my opinion, but only after the Dan Band of course).

I've never been one of those girls who dreams about their perfect wedding. I don't actually want to get married ever. But with all this Kim K wedding imagery anywhere and these to-die-for Fall 2012 dresses by Monique Lhuillier which I chanced upon, I can't help but wonder what if?

Party Rock Halloween Lights

All Hallow's Eve is right around the corner and I'm starting to get into the spirit of everything Halloweeny. Especially candy. But I'll save that for another post.

Check out this Halloween light show set to LMFAO's "Party Rock Anthem". This is seriously the bestest halloween display I've ever seen. Even if you hate the song, you've gotta admit that the lights are pretty cool.

The house has 4 singing pumpkin faces, tombstones, hand carved pumpkins, strobes, floods and thousands of lights! Everything was custom made by the owner of the house.

First of all, I would absolutely love to go trick or treating in this neighbourhood just to see the house, but I wonder how their neighbours feel about this. Is the display on every night? I'd be fucking pissed if it were. I like LMFAO, but not that much. And their electric bill must be crazzzy.

Made to Measure

Gucci has a brand new men's made-to-measure service, and James Franco is the star of their campaign to promote it. I'm no Franco stan, but he looks pretttty good in this video. And I'm in love with the cinematography.

These campaign images were just released by the Florentine luxury giant to mark the inaugaration of its excellent-sounding new sartorial service. Called "All The World's a Stage", it was shot by Nathaniel Goldberg at the huge Roman film studio Cinecittà.

WoW: Mists of Pandaria

Hot from Blizzcon is the announcement of the next World of Warcraft expansion called Mists of Pandaria. It's going to include a new race, level cap, class and talents.

It's China/Panda themed... sort of Kung Fu Panda meets WoW.

The expansion takes place on the continent of Pandaria and comes with a new level cap of 90. The expansion also brings with it a new pet battle system, new talent system, Blizzard's Chris Metzen said. And for the first time ever, both factions will be able to can play as the pandas.

I don't know how I feel about this. I wish they had like an Alliance Peking Duck or something to go with a Horde Panda. Also, my main is a Hunter and I'm looking forward to how the new pet battle and talent system will work out. Hope they've put work into making Hunters more pvp friendly.

FOR THE HORDE!

Creative carriers from Magpie Studio

Tired of delivering proofs in aboring ol' portfolio carrier thingys and plain tube rolls? Want to impress your clients x 3492489024 times more and ensure they remember your brand?

Magpie Studio can help make it all happen for you.

Hey they did it for Garvin Martin Colornet, and now his work looks spectacular instead and out:
"Gavin Martin Colornet were looking to raise their profile within the design industry. The proof bags and tubes which they use to deliver proofs, presented an untapped opportunity as a mobile advertising canvas. So we decided to make them a little more eye catching and memorable, make them raise a smile and act as a talking point when dropping off or picking up proofs, as well as increasing the chances of them being kept."

Adiós, LA

Farewells and break-ups are hard, and everyone has their own way of dealing with leaving. Some people leave Facebook wall posts, write letters or just give hugs and whisper well wishes. Others design a series of billboards all over the city.

Designer Jon Jackson recently said adios to LA, the city he's adopted as his home for years and decided to spend shit loads of money to put up billboards of classic break-up lines everyone (by that I mean people who live on cliches) has heard or used some time in their live.

Though expensive, this is an amazing idea and a true ode to the city! Wouldn't they also make for a great tourism campaign?

Skateboard Sunglasses

If it's not already obvious, the girls at JKT have quite a thing for skateboards. And if you were starting to get bored of them, don't be — we've found more reason why they're awesome!

See those sunglasses? Made from sustainable wood aka broken skateboards. How genius are the lads at Shwood? And why is this paragraph full of rhetorical questions?

Anyway check out how they came up with this babies in this rad video — though you'll have to sit through 1.5 mins of boys skating through the city. And when I say boys, I really mean boys. Teenage boy people.

GOOGLE X MARY BLAIR

Happy 100th Birthday Mary Blair!

FACEBOOK OFFICIAL

Before we get started, there are a few safety procedures I need to run through with you:
1. You should NOT watch this video if you have high blood pressure or heart disease
2. You should NOT watch this video if you are pregnant
3. You should NOT watch this video if you are operating heavy machinery
4. You might want to be seated throughout the duration of the video

Okay, proceed:

HEART2HEART

Heart2Heart is pretty much a white K-Pop band that sings in English.

If you think Rebecca Black is bad, you're sadly mistaken. These kids, aka spawn of Lance Bass' boy band project loins, take the horrible pop music cake. Facebook Official is in a whole other realm of god awful. You need to be both deaf and blind to enjoy this bullshit.

They're so terrible that music industry insiders are starting to wonder if they're a legit boyband or just a parody group. Apparently H2H's frontman David Lehre aka Chad Future, is a filmmaker who has a history of creating boy band parody videos.

Real or fake, I will slap anyone who goes "Facebook official" with anyone of these dickwads.

Mama’s Sauce Letterpress

Because brilliant letterpressing makes my heart beat a little faster.
Found on design work life:
Just when I thought they couldn’t get any better, Nick Sambrato of Mama’s Sauce came up with a way to revolutionize our letterpress printing options. Using a salvaged 1921 C&P, he came up with a way to modify the press so that it can print directly onto converted boxes! Watch the video below to see how they did this for Makr, and be amazed.

Concrete Canvas

Get ready to go 'WOAHHH' at these crazy cute and creative chairs. And my accidental alliterations skills as well.

Inspired by a material called 'concrete canvas' (seriously), German industrial designer Florian Schmid set out to stitch these amazing chairs together.

Though they look sensational, I can't say they're screaming at me to lay my bum on them. Amazing, nonetheless!

CÉLINE X SKATING

About a month back, Jayne, of Stop It Right Now aka one of my fave blogs, fell head over heels in love with Céline prints — and then came the birth of the best DIY project ever.

To marry her love for fashion and skateboarding, she decided to customize a few skateboard decks with some of her fave Céline prints, which are arguably the most iconic prints of 2011. The result? One of the most beautiful and clever things ever.

Unfortunately this limited edition babies were hot stuff and have all been snapped up. I want these on my wall so bad!

P.S. How cute is this DIY shirt she did for her dog? Classy pooch is classy.

Buckingham Interiors + Designs

When it comes to working, whether it's for a proper job, school or just doing my own thing, where I work is almost as important as where I work. I'm the sort of person that is inspired by my surroundings (I see a bed, I want to sleep; I see boring office, I don't want to do anything), and there ain't nothing better than being in a creative space.

And this is how Julia Edelmann, of Buckingham Interiors + Designs, showcases her eclectic taste and passion for antiques and artifacts in her Chicago showroom. I particularly love how the walls are a crispy white yet differ in texture, and how various version of similar things are grouped together.

Dreams Of Flying Revisited

An update of one of my favourite photography projects of recent times — 'Dream of Flying Revisited', by photographer Jan von Holleben, is sure to make you smile to your screen at how adorable it is.
"Working on an editorial on dreams of a grown-up was something new and challenging. The images had to be much more complex, sophisticated and art directed. It turned out to be so much fun and even whilst shooting, we had more ideas. For example, the shot when she is 'shopping' or when she is 'driving the car' were totally improvised during the shoot. That was quite a revelation for anyone on set."

Because we like you, pictures of flying and diving after the jump.

Moustaches Make A Difference

We are JKT are big fans of the ze moustache, and I know this post comes a little premature since we have a few weeks to go before the month of Movember, but this was too brilliant not to share.

TBWA Singapore's glorious ad campaign entitled “Moustaches Make A Difference“ is an initiative to show its support for research against prostate cancer. It features before and after type illustrations of male icons with character defining facial hair. Basically, without facial hair these individuals look extremely basic, but then they transform into the cultural superstars we know and love with the power of the moustache.

“Movember is a month where men all over the world grow their moustaches in support of men’s health issues. We’re bringing our own version of this movement to Singapore, and growing our moustaches in support of prostate cancer research.”

If you know me you'd know that I'd grow a mo if I could.
So if you're a dude or a ridiculously hairy woman, please grow one on my behalf.
Unless you can only grow a creeper 'stache.... then uh... don't.

Prostate cancer research! HUZZAH!

Core77 Design Awards trophy

This year's Core77 Design Awards trophy comes in the form of a mold. The winners also get a supply of crayons to melt for casting.

I would go ape shit if I had something like that. Spending hours creating  MULTICOLORED crayon blocks. \m/

NYC + TKY — View From Above

No matter how cliche or wannabe-trendy it sounds, Manhattan and Tokyo are truly two of my favourite cities in the world, and pretty sure I left bits of my 19 and 21 year old heart there. Every you look, every corner you turn, you're bound to find something beautiful — but some of the best views of great cities are from above.

Awesome photos are from Navid Baraty's Intersection project — view more of his fantastic work here.
